dragonfly by Melissa Reyes
I've come to crush you.

Once, I held you
Small in my hand,
You whirred and hovered
I felt the beat of your wings
Quivering in my palm
Brushing against my skin

You gleam in the sunlight
Blue and green alternating
Shifting with the golden rays
Like a precious gem
Glints in the sunlight

You darted to and fro
But never out of sight
perhaps out of mind

And never far away.

You fascinate me.

But I am human,
Invulnerable to such natural charm
Science of reason
Has cheated me of wonder
And glory
Though I wonder at you
I cannot say or entertain
A thought, a breath, a kiss
For now.

And so here goes nothing.

SQUASH.

Just kidding.

I don't have the heart.

I love the ending. Describes how I feel at the moment.

I think when we get our hearts broken, it's easy to come up with all these vows about what we will do or won't do next time around.

maybe vows are overrated.
