Tehachapi Loop is the most famous piece of railroading history in the world. The name to railroaders and railfans is like ordering a Coke in any foreign country: everybody knows what it is. An engineering marvel from the early 1900's, the loop allows trains to loop over themselves while climbing 77 feet on their way over the Tehachapi mountains between Bakersfield and Mojave, CA.
