It was 1960 and I was discovering for myself what I had read about: the religious syncretism of many First Americans. This scene is one of many that exemplify that. The title reflects the question of the one(s) that put these candles on the floor of the main church in Chichicastenango: 'Will God or a saint or a spirit hear my prayer and grant my request?'
